America's homeless crisis is soon to get worse. According to data from the Labor Department, more jobs have been lost in the past 12 months than any other period since the government began keeping records in 1939. Perhaps most disconcerting is that experts predict unemployment will get worse before the economy gets better. In this workshop, you will learn how to become part of the solution to this crisis.
Shannon Moriarty has worked to fight homelessness through outreach, shelter work, and grassroots, national, and online advocacy for five years. She was the Director of Development at a family shelter in Durham, North Carolina and spent the past summer working in the Research Institute of the National Alliance to End Homelessness in Washington D.C. Shannon writes and edits the End Homelessness blog for Change.org. She is a graduate student at Tufts University in Massachusetts studying housing and social welfare policy.
Mark Horvath started his executive career being the person directly responsible for the worldwide distribution of Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Married with Children, 21 Jump Street, plus many other syndicated shows. He has over 30 years of leadership, management and marketing experience with the last 14 years being in the nonprofit sector.
Currently Mark Horvath has broken the mold. He is not doing what makes sense, he's not doing something that even pays the bills--he is living out his passion and doing what burns deep inside of him. Mark has developed InvisiblePeople.tv to tell the stories of
the homeless, something he knows all too well as he once lived among them. Mark not only has an incredible personal story, he also knows how to tell a story. The stark interviews with homeless people are riveting. His work is extremely innovative and his ingenious use of social media is giving a voice to homelessness.
